Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Louisville's Kevin Ware played in his first game Wednesday since suffering a gruesome broken leg injury against Duke in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

Ware suffered a compound fracture after he landed awkwardly while trying to block a shot in the first half of Louisville's eventual 85-63 win over Duke. He was taken from the court on a stretcher.

He returned in an exhibition tilt against Pikeville and swished his first shot attempt, a 3-pointer, from the right wing.

"I honestly thought I would air-ball my first shot," Ware said.

Ware, who wore black wraps on both of his lower legs, finished with six points and four rebounds in 10 minutes in the Cardinals' 90-61 victory.

Ware was cleared to practice with full contact Sunday, but he wasn't expected to play Wednesday.

"I wanted to get him some minutes just to get over the jitters of being back just in case we used him against Charleston," Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said.
