Harare, Zimbabwe (Sports Network) - Jake Roos fired a 5-under 67 on Sunday and secured a 1-stroke victory at the Zimbabwe Open.
Roos finished 72 holes at 14-under-par 274, edging overnight leaders Darren Fichardt (72) and Francesco Laporta (72), who tied for second place at 13- under at Royal Harare Golf Club.
Doug McGuigan (66) and Lindani Ndwandwe (70) tied for fourth at 12-under, Jaco Ahlers (68) ended alone in sixth at 11-under, and Desvonde Botes (65), Ryan Cairns (68), Charl Coetzee (69) and Titch Moore (69) ended knotted in seventh at minus-10.
Roos, who has five playoff victories in his career, avoided extra golf when he birdied the 16th to go in front for good.
"It was a clutch final round that pulled it off for me," said Roos, who started the final day four shots off the pace. "It started well, and then got a little slow in the middle when I made a bogey on the seventh. I finished strongly with birdies on 13, 15 and 16."
Fichardt and Laporta had putts on the last to force a playoff, but the former's roll from the back of the green hit the hole and ended right next to it, while the latter's 12-footer stopped inches from the cup.
