USA blanks Germany at Worlds; Canada edges Czechs

Helsinki, Finland (Sports Network) - The United States clinched a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2013 World Hockey Championship with Sunday's 3-0 win over Germany.

John Gibson earned the shutout with a 30-save effort, while captain Paul Stastny, Stephen Gionta and Bobby Butler supplied the goals for the Americans.

Team USA sits atop Group H with 15 points, one more than host Finland. Each team has one game remaining in the preliminary round.

In other Group H action, Russia beat Slovakia by a 3-1 margin.

In Stockholm, Canada got a tie-breaking goal from Jeff Skinner in the third period that held up as the difference in a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic.

Mike Smith made 30 saves for a Canadians squad that is also bound for the next round.

Switzerland took down Norway by a 3-1 score on Sunday to move one point ahead of Canada for first place in Group S.
