New York, NY (Sports Network) - The National Hockey League handed down suspensions to a pair of Vancouver Canucks forwards on Monday.

Zack Kassian was banned for the remainder of the preseason -- three games -- as well as the first five regular-season contests for delivering a cross-check to the face of Edmonton's Sam Gagner on Saturday.

The force of the blow was enough to break Gagner's jaw, knock out several teeth, and leave him out of action for an undetermined period of time. Kassian was given a double minor for high sticking on the play.

Dale Weise will be sidelined for the balance of the preseason, due to his illegal hit to the head of Oilers forward Taylor Hall. Hall remained in the game, and Weise was only assessed a minor penalty.
