Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews did not play in the third period of Saturday's Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Toews took a hit high to the back from Johnny Boychuk in front of the Boston net in the second period. He played several more shifts in the middle period after the hit.

He was on the bench for the start of the third period, but did not take a shift in the frame.

After the contest, Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said that Toews has an upper-body injury and was hopeful he'd be ready for Game 6 in Boston on Monday.

"Toews, we're hopeful he'll be ready next game, upper body," said Quenneville. We'll see how he is tomorrow. I checked on him a couple times there. I think he wanted to play, but we'll see."

Toews, who assisted on two goals from Patrick Kane in the 3-1 win, has two goals and 10 assists in 22 playoff games.

Chicago has a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
