Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Washington

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Eric Fehr scored twice and the Washington Capitals blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-0, on Saturday.

Fehr opened the scoring with a goal late in the first period and put the game away with Washington's third marker midway through the third. Marcus Johansson also scored for the Capitals, winners in four of five.

Braden Holtby posted his third shutout of the season and second in the last four games, stopping all 31 shots he faced.

"He's been really instrumental, basically this whole month," said Capitals coach Barry Trotz.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for Pittsburgh, which lost its third straight game.

Late in the first period, Brooks Laich skated down the left side and dropped off a pass in front to Jay Beagle. Fleury turned aside his shot, but Fehr was there to knock in the rebound.

Washington couldn't add to its lead in the second period despite peppering Fleury with 16 shots, but the visitors broke through for a second goal early in the third.

Johansson skated the length of the ice leading a 2-on-1 break. Scott Harrington played off of the Swedish winger, who fired a wrister from the right circle for his 10th goal of the season.

"They grabbed momentum with that second goal," said Penguins forward Sidney Crosby. "We were hanging around for a while."

Fehr's insurance goal, a nifty redirect of Joel Ward's shot, just under five minutes later, sealed it for Washington.

Game Notes

Fehr posted his first multi-goal game of the season ... This is the first of four meetings between the two Metropolitan Division foes ... Washington went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Pittsburgh finished 0-for-4.
