Recap: Carolina vs. Edmonton

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Elias Lindholm notched his first career hat trick and added two assists as Carolina scored six straight goals on its way to a 7-4 victory over Edmonton on Sunday.

Jeff Skinner had two goals and Eric Staal posted four assists for the Hurricanes, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Cam Ward turned away 16 shots in the win.

"Instead of deviating away from what works, we just stayed with it and got rewarded," said Carolina head coach Bill Peters. "That should be a real good lesson moving forward, not just this year but moving forward. There's no panic and no need to change anything."

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins recorded his second career hat trick and added an assist while Jordan Eberle had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who have lost their last four games. Richard Bachman allowed six goals on 34 shots in the loss.

Carolina was down 3-0 and started its comeback at the 9:22 mark of the second period, as Alexander Semin charged the net from the right circle and lost the puck, but was able to sweep it in with one hand while his back was on the ice for his fourth of the season.

At the 13-minute mark the Hurricanes made it a one-goal game as Ron Hainsey backhanded a loose puck from the slot down to the right side where Lindholm redirected it in to make it a 3-2 game.

Skating 5-on-3, Carolina tied the game on a three-pass play that saw Skinner finish it off from the right side at 15:23 of the second.

The Hurricanes took their first lead of the game at 1:40 of the third period when Lindholm sent a short pass from the low right side to the circle where Andrej Nestrasil controlled the puck, skated to the slot and wristed it home.

It was a 5-3 game thanks to Carolina's third straight power-play goal at 6:18 when Skinner's heavy wrister from the left circle found the back of the net.

Just 31 seconds later, the Hurricanes took a 6-3 lead when Lindholm one-timed a pass from Victor Rask.

Edmonton made it a two-goal game at 9:31 on Nugent-Hopkins' third goal of the game and 19th of the season, but was unable to cut any further into its deficit and Lindholm put the game away with an empty-net goal for the hat trick with 1:20 left.

"They started playing in our end and they started creating chances," Eberle said. "They got one there, then we took a couple penalties and we couldn't seem to keep the puck out of our net on the PK."

The Oilers scored the first three goals of the game, starting halfway through the first as Nugent-Hopkins finished off a 2-on-1 with a wrister from the right circle.

Edmonton scored a pair of power-play goals in the second, the first at 6:45 on Eberle's 16th of the season. Nugent-Hopkins snapped home his own rebound 1:14 later for a 3-0 lead.
