Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - James van Riemsdyk scored the game-winning goal late in overtime as the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
Daniel Winnik and Nazem Kadri each tallied a goal and an assist, Leo Komarov also lit the lamp and Morgan Rielly supplied two helpers for the Maple Leafs, who entered the game with losses in 16 of their last 17.
Jonathan Bernier made 31 saves in the win.
Mark Scheifele had a goal and an assist while Michael Frolik and Jacob Trouba also scored for the Jets, who have dropped their last two contests. Michael Hutchinson stopped 29 shots in defeat.
The Maple Leafs started overtime on a power play after Jets defenseman Mark Stuart took an interference penalty with six seconds left in regulation.
Winnipeg successfully killed off the infraction, but van Riemsdyk stormed down the right side and beat Hutchinson on a near-side wrister from the right circle to end the game with 1:13 left in the extra session.
Komarov put Toronto on the board first with a short-handed goal as he skated from his own zone and slapped a shot over the shoulder of Hutchinson from the left circle at 12:57 of the opening stanza.
Trouba, however, responded with a power-play goal 34 seconds later as his shot from below the goal line went off a Maple Leafs defender and into the net.
Scheifele gave the Jets the lead on the man advantage with 50 seconds to play in the first. The Winnipeg forward took Toronto defenseman Petter Granberg's errant pass in the slot and wristed the puck past Bernier.
Winnik's deflection in front briefly tied the game at 15:07 of the second, but Winnipeg climbed back in front as Frolik's wrister from the slot went past a screened Bernier with 55 seconds left in the frame.
Kadri made it a 3-3 game on a wraparound just 3:57 into the final period.Game Notes
