"That's the way we need to play," Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff said. "It starts by your best players doing the right things."

Seguin leads the league with 21 goals and 35 points this season.

Sven Andrighetto scored Montreal's lone goal in his NHL debut and Carey Price made 25 saves in defeat. The Canadiens have now lost six of their last seven games.

Seguin buried Benn's feed through the crease over the shoulder of Price from the left side of the net as Dallas took advantage of a 5-on-3 man advantage 3:09 into the second.

The two combined for another goal with 7.8 seconds to play in the middle stanza. Benn won a faceoff back to Seguin, who sent fired the puck on net for a 3-0 advantage.

Andrighetto moved in on net and backhanded a shot in close past Lehtonen to get Montreal on the board 2:21 into the third, but Garbutt tallied an empty- net goal with 1:04 to play to account for the final score.

"I saw an opening and just put it in," said Andrighetto. "Of course it's really nice that I was able to score, but it would've been a lot better if we won the game."
