Recap: Los Angeles vs. Winnipeg

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings used a balanced effort to pick up their first win of the season, 4-1 over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson lit the lamp for the Kings, who improved to 1-1-1 on the young season. Martin Jones made 29 saves.

"I thought we did a good job in front of both nets actually," said Jones. "They did a good job of getting bodies and throwing pucks towards the net and we always seemed to come up with the puck in front of our net and in front of their net too, and bang, a couple goals."

Bryan Little scored the lone goal for the Jets, who have lost two in a row. Michael Hutchinson stopped 10-of-13 shots before being pulled in the second period. Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 17-of-18 shots in relief.

"Yeah, we knew they were going to come hard," said Hutchinson. "They dropped their first two games and being back at home we knew they were going to come hard and they did. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't pull it out tonight."

Toffoli jammed home a rebound at the 6:18 mark of the first period to make it 1-0 Los Angeles.

Kopitar gave the Kings a two-goal cushion at 10:58. Drew Doughty's shot from the right point resulted in a rebound for Marian Gaborik, who passed to Kopitar.

Pearson scored from the top of the left circle at 2:03 of the second stanza. Carter put home a rebound at the 16:42 mark to make it 4-0.

Little lit the lamp for Winnipeg at 17:47 of the second.
