Recap: St. Louis vs. Calgary
St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - David Backes' power-play goal in the first period proved to be the game-winner in the St. Louis Blues' 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Joakim Lindstrom, Alex Pietrangelo and Vladimir Tarasenko also lit the lamp for the Blues, who rebounded from a 3-2 season-opening loss to the New York Rangers.
Paul Stastny and Kevin Shattenkirk both recorded three assists and Brian Elliot made 23 saves in the win.
"We played simple early (and) we played hard," Shattenkirk said. "We did the things that make us successful."
Curtis Glencross scored Calgary's lone goal and Jonas Hiller made 35 stops in net for the Flames, who have dropped two of three to open the season.
"We didn't bring our game tonight," Glencross said. "We got outworked in every department of the game."
St. Louis wasted little time getting on the board, as Lindstrom converted a feed from Stastny on a 3-on-1 break 48 seconds into the game.
Backes then tipped a slap shot off the stick of Shattenkirk at the point with 11:16 showing in the first.
Pietrangelo scored on the power play in the second period as he buried a long rebound from the right circle into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. Tarasenko then added a fourth goal later in the second.
