Recap: Columbus vs. Carolina
Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Sergei Bobrovsky made 36 saves for his second shutout of the season in the Columbus Blue Jackets' 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
Cam Atkinson had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets, who have won seven straight against Carolina. Brandon Dubinsky and Boone Jenner also lit the lamp.
Anton Khudobin turned aside 21-of-24 shots for the Hurricanes, who had a five- game winning streak snapped.
"The first period was like a chess match type of game for both teams," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "Nothing was going on, which we were quite happy with.
"Then, one or two breakdowns and they capitalized. They're a good team. They play a good system. They don't give up much. We don't give up much either, but we weren't able to sustain that second and third opportunity and capitalize."
Columbus drew first blood 15 minutes into the first period. Carolina turned the puck over in its own zone and Jenner beat Khudobin with a wrist shot.
Dubinsky made it 2-0 just 1:10 later after he took a pass from Atkinson and fired a shot from the left circle.
The Blue Jackets maintained their 2-0 edge in the middle stanza thanks to strong goaltending from Bobrovsky. He made 16 saves in the period.
Atkinson made it a 3-0 contest at 5:54 of the third period. While on the power play, Atkinson wristed a shot from the left circle after taking a pass from Mark Letestu.
Carolina failed to score on a two-man advantage midway through the frame.
Bobrovsky made 13 saves over the final 20 minutes to secure the sixth shutout of his career.
"Our goaltender energized the building in the third period with some of his saves," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "That is a little reminiscent of last season."Game Notes
