Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Mason Raymond was signed to a one-year contract.

Raymond, who totaled 22 points in 46 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season, arrived in Toronto thanks to a professional tryout contract at the outset of training camp.

"Based on Mason's play in the preseason, we feel he fits in well with our group and will have a significant role on our team," said Leafs GM Dave Nonis. "We agreed to terms over the weekend and look forward to him making a strong contribution this season."

Raymond's addition is key, given that forward David Clarkson may face a 10- game suspension for leaving the bench to aid teammate Phil Kessel during a brawl between the Leafs and Sabres in Sunday's exhibition contest.

In 374 NHL appearances for the Canucks in six seasons, Raymond has accumulated 80 goals and 178 points, adding eight goals and 10 assists in 55 playoff tilts.
