San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks have locked up another key player for the long-term, with the team announcing Tuesday it has signed center Joe Pavelski to a five-year extension through the 2018-19 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Pavelski was entering the final season of a four-year, $16 million deal he signed with the Sharks in June of 2010.

A seventh-round choice by San Jose in the 2003 draft, Pavelski has developed into a solid two-way center during his seven NHL seasons. The Wisconsin native has compiled 150 goals and 186 assists over that span, while winning over 55 percent over his faceoff draws.

Pavelski tied Logan Couture for the team lead with a career-best 31 goals in 2011-12 and recorded 16 markers along with 15 assists over 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign. His five game-winning goals this past season matched the club lead.

The 29-year-old has been a proven playoff performer as well, topping the Sharks with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 11 games during the most recent Stanley Cup Playoffs and scoring a pair of power-play goals in San Jose's series-clinching Game 4 of its Western Conference quarterfinals matchup against Vancouver.

"Joe has been an important part of our success over the last several years and we are excited to have him with our club for the next six seasons," said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson.

Pavelski's extension comes less than a month after the Sharks added five years to the contract of Couture, the team's leader with 21 goals last season.
