New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - San Jose Sharks rookie forward Tomas Hertl was named the NHL's First Star for the second full week of the 2013-14 season.

Hertl, a 19-year-old native of the Czech Republic, set the league on its ear last week, totaling an NHL-best five goals in only three games for the unbeaten Bay Area club.

He picked up four of those in a 9-2 victory over the Rangers on Oct. 8, including a between-the-legs, breakaway shot for his final tally of the contest which drew widespread reaction.

The 17th-overall pick in the 2012 draft leads all first-year players with seven goals.

Second Star honors went to a pair of Avalanche goaltenders in a rare move. Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastien Giguere have combined to allow only four goals in Colorado's first five games of the season.

Varlamov went 2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and .971 save percentage, while Giguere stopped 39 shots in his lone start, a 2-0 win in Boston last Thursday.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby took home the Third Star. Crosby led the league with seven points (3G, 4A) in three games as Pittsburgh won two of its three matchups. He also recorded his eighth career hat trick in a 5-4 win over the Bolts on Saturday. The league leader in points (9) has a season-commencing five-game point streak, his longest to kick off a season since his rookie year in 2005-06.
