Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with goaltender Jonas Gustavsson on a one-year contract.

Gustavsson will continue to back up starting goaltender, Jimmy Howard.

"Gus gives us a one-two security punch with Jimmy Howard," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said.

The 29-year-old Swede, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent, went 16-5-4 across 27 games with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in his second season with the Red Wings.

Gustavsson also made two starts in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Bruins last season.

Although he is coming off his best NHL season, Gustavsson missed 23 games with three different injuries including a strained groin.

In four seasons with Toronto and Detroit, he has compiled a 57-52-20 record with a 2.91 GAA and a .900 save percentage across 141 games.
