Alameda, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha announced his retirement on Friday, doing so as a member of the Oakland Raiders.

Asomugha played his first eight NFL seasons for the Raiders, while also suiting up for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

"It is a great feeling putting on the Silver and Black. It's not colorful, it's just tough," Asomugha said at a press conference making his decision official. "I definitely think that one of my reasons for being in the NFL and having the success I had was being able to give back. With any success that you get, try to serve someone with it."

The three-time Pro Bowl corner was released Nov. 4 after playing just three games for the 49ers this season.

Asomugha, who married "Scandal" actress Kerry Washington in June, had signed a one-year deal with the Niners after two disappointing seasons as a starter with Philadelphia, which signed him to a five-year, $60 million deal as a prized free agent in 2011.

That deal came after Asomugha made three straight Pro Bowls from 2008-10 with the Raiders, building a reputation as one of the top corners in the league.

Asomugha, 32, registered 407 tackles and 15 interceptions in 11 NFL seasons and played in at least 14 games in 10 of those seasons.
