Metairie, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Orleans Saints placed Jonathan Vilma on injured reserve Thursday, ending the veteran linebacker's season after just one game.

Vilma started the season on short-term injured reserve as he recovered from arthroscopic knee surgery in August, but was activated prior to the team's Week 9 loss to the Jets.

However, Vilma played limited snaps against New York and recorded just two tackles.

The 31-year-old veteran has started 68-of-70 games played over his six-year tenure in New Orleans, posting 530 tackles, eight sacks, six interceptions, seven fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles during that span.

To replace Vilma on the roster, the Saints re-signed defensive back Chris Carr, who was waived on Saturday to make room for Vilma.

Carr, 30, compiled eight tackles, two passes defensed and one interception over five games with the Saints.
