Green Bay, WI ( - The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a three-year contract with eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers, the team announced Saturday.

ESPN has reported the deal to be worth a maximum of $30 million.

Peppers spent the past four seasons with NFC North-rival Chicago and played his first eight years with the Carolina Panthers. He led the Bears with seven sacks last season, his lowest total since 2007.

The 34-year-old was released by the Bears just prior to Tuesday's start of the new league year. Peppers was due to count $20 million against the salary cap this coming season, part of a six-year, $84 million pact he signed with Chicago in March of 2010.

He joins a Green Bay team that has reached the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, posting double-digit wins in four of those years.

"I haven't won a championship. That's where my focus is," Peppers told the Packers' official site. "I feel like the team is set up to make a run and I feel I can help get it there."

Peppers has 118 1/2 career sacks and has missed just six games in his 12- year career. He also has nine interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns, and 39 forced fumbles.
