New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NFL on Tuesday officially suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick for the first four games of the season.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones acknowledged the ban to reporters Monday night, saying Scandrick failed a drug test.

The league confirmed Scandrick violated the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. The violation reportedly occurred while he was vacationing in Mexico.

Scandrick started 15 of 16 games for the Cowboys last season, recording 64 tackles and two interceptions.

The 27-year-old will be eligible to return to the Cowboys' active roster on Monday, September 29. He will be able to participate in all preseason practices and games.
