Lake Forest, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Bears have locked up Robbie Gould for the next four years, with the team announcing Friday that the longtime kicker has agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2017 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Gould, who has served as Chicago's kicker since 2005, was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

Gould, who turns 32 on Dec. 30, has been a model of consistency during his nine-year tenure with the Bears, having made good on 86 percent (234-of-272) of his field goal attempts and 319-of-321 point-after tries over that span. He currently ranks sixth in NFL history in field-goal accuracy, despite playing half his games in the challenging conditions of Soldier Field.

The Penn State product has gone 26-of-29 on field goal attempts this season and hit a career-long 58-yarder that helped the Bears to a 24-21 win over Cincinnati in Week 1.

Gould's best season came in 2006, when he set a franchise record with 26 consecutive field goals made and finished second in the NFL with 143 points while earning First Team All-Pro honors for the NFC champion Bears.
