Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic signed forward Jason Maxiell on Thursday.

The two-year deal is worth $5 million, according to Yahoo! Sports. The Magic hold an option on Maxiell's $2.5 million for the 2014-15 season.

Maxiell spent the first eight seasons of his NBA career with the Detroit Pistons. He averaged 6.9 points and a career-high 5.7 rebounds in 72 games last season.

"We're excited to welcome Jason (Maxiell) and his family to the Magic organization," Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said. "Jason brings an element of experience, toughness and resolve to our roster that we feel will benefit our team."

Originally drafted by the Pistons in the first round of the 2005 draft, Maxiell has averaged 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 523 career games (175 starts).
