Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Timberwolves waived oft- injured guard Brandon Roy on Friday.

Roy has been ravaged by knee injuries during his six-year career and temporarily retired following the end 2010-11 season because of the issues.

After sitting out a year, Roy attempted a comeback with the T-Wolves this past season but played in just five games before another surgery to his knee sidelined him for the rest of the campaign.

"We wish Brandon and his family all the best in the future," said Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders.

Roy was the Rookie of the Year in 2007 and earned three All-Star selections during a five-year stint with the Portland Trail Blazers.

In 326 career games, the 28-year-old Roy has averaged 18.8 points, 4.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds.
