Recap: Oakland vs. LA Angels

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jed Lowrie had two hits, including a solo homer, and drove in two runs and the Athletics finished off a three-game sweep of the Angels with a 6-2 win on Sunday.

The A's knocked around Angels ace Jered Weaver for 11 hits and six runs in six innings to complete their MLB-leading sixth series sweep of the season.

Weaver (6-4) was 6-1 with a 2.01 ERA in his previous eight starts. The righty walked one and struck out two, throwing 51 of his 90 pitches for strikes in the loss.

"We made him work," said A's manager Bob Melvin. "He's always difficult. You never know what he's going to throw. He's as unpredictable as anyone in the league. ... That was a good game for us against him."

Oakland went 5-2 on a seven-game homestand against stiff competition. The A's also split a four-game set against AL Central-leading Detroit and will start a nine-game road trip on Tuesday against the New York Yankees.

They are 35-22 for the first time since 1991.

Sonny Gray (6-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks to pick up the win -- Oakland's first in his last three starts.

The A's got all the offense they needed in a four-run third inning. Coco Crisp had an RBI double but Josh Donaldson delivered the biggest blow with a two-run single through the left side. Lowrie made it 4-0 with an RBI single.

"They have some guys in the middle of their lineup that are doing some great things," Weaver said. "It was a frustrating weekend."

The Angels got on the board in the fifth with a two-run rally -- Erick Aybar and Albert Pujols had sacrifice flies -- but Lowrie homered on a 3-0 fastball in the bottom of the inning and Eric Sogard's RBI single in the sixth pushed Oakland's lead back to four runs.

Aybar's RBI double in the seventh inning chased Gray from the game.

Game Notes

Lowrie hit his fourth homer of the season ... The Angels will play a three- game series in Houston starting Tuesday ... The A's recalled catcher Stephen Vogt from Sacramento on Sunday and optioned right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodriguez to the Triple-A team.
