Recap: Miami vs. San Francisco
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - There was no shortage of offense on Friday at Marlins Park.
Hunter Pence went 3-for-6 with five RBI and the San Francisco Giants recorded 19 hits in their 14-10 win over the Miami Marlins, in the opener of a three- game series.
Pence scored three times and had two doubles and a triple. Hector Sanchez had a three-run home run while Pablo Sandoval went 4-for-4 with three RBI in the victory. Brandon Belt also recorded four hits, an RBI and scored four times.
Starter Chad Gaudin gave up eight runs on 11 hits and four walks over four- plus frames. Sandy Rosario (3-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
"He stopped the momentum and threw great," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Rosario.
Justin Ruggiano had two home runs and four RBI while Logan Morrison and Donovan Solano drove in two runs apiece.
Nathan Eovaldi (2-3) lasted just three-plus innings, surrendering 11 runs -- nine earned -- on 12 hits and a walk.
"For us to score 10 runs and end up losing the ballgame, it's kind of hard to believe," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.
The Giants pounded Eovaldi for four runs in the first. Marco Scutaro, Brandon Crawford and Belt hit consecutive singles to start the game. With the bases loaded, Pence hit a liner to shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, who failed to make the catch, and brought Scutaro and Crawford home. Sandoval plated Belt and Pence with a double to right-center.
They added three more runs in the second. With one out, Crawford singled to left and Belt reached second on a fielding error by Morrison. Pence ripped a two-RBI double to right-center and scored on Sandoval's single to left-center.
Miami came back with a four-run third. Eovaldi singled with one out and Christian Yelich knocked a double to right-center. Solano scored Eovaldi with a single to right. Two batters later, Morrison delivered a two-RBI double to right-center. Polanco brought him home with a base hit to left.
However, San Francisco negated it with five runs in the fourth. Belt and Pence knocked back-to-back doubles to start the inning, the latter of which drove in a run. Following a single by Sandoval, Sanchez hammered a 2-1 pitch over the right field wall.
Eovaldi was replaced by Ryan Webb, but he gave up a triple to Roger Kieschnick, who scored on Gregor Blanco's infield single.
Ruggiano led the home half with a shot to left. An inning later, with the bases loaded, Ruggiano drove in two with a double to right. followed by consecutive RBI singles from Yelich and Solano, and the Marlins cut the deficit to 12-9.
Back-to-back RBI one-out triples by Belt and Pence in the seventh extended the margin to five runs.
Barry Zito came out on the mound in the bottom of the ninth. He gave up a leadoff homer to Ruggiano and walked Giancarlo Stanton with two outs, but finished the game by getting Morrison to ground out.Game Notes
