Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres activated shortstop Everth Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list Friday.
Cabrera was placed on the DL on June 19, retroactive to June 17, and missed 17 games due to a strained left hamstring.
Before his injury, the 26-year-old Cabrera was off to a hot start, hitting .305 with a .382 on-base percentage. Despite missing the past few weeks, Cabrera still leads the National League with 31 stolen bases.
Last season, Cabrera led the NL with 44 stolen bases in just 115 games.
He is a career .254 hitter in 365 games over five seasons, all with the Padres.
To make room for Cabrera, San Diego optioned pitcher Burch Smith to Triple-A Tucson. Smith, a 23-year-old rookie, is 0-1 with an 11.37 earned run average in six games -- including three starts -- this season.
