Phillies place Howard on DL

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies placed first baseman Ryan Howard on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation.

Howard, who has been dealing with knee discomfort for several weeks, was batting .266 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI over 80 games this season.

Philadelphia recalled first baseman Darin Ruf from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and he will be active for Saturday's tilt with the Atlanta Braves.

Over 82 games in the minors this season, Ruf is batting .266 with seven homer and 46 RBI.
