New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Rodriguez withdrew his lawsuits against Major League Baseball, Commissioner Bud Selig and the Players' Association Friday as he prepares to serve a season-long suspension.

"We have been informed that Alex Rodriguez has reached the prudent decision to end all of the litigation related to the Biogenesis matter," MLB said in a statement. "We believe that Mr. Rodriguez's actions show his desire to return the focus to the play of our great game on the field and to all of the positive attributes and actions of his fellow Major League Players. We share that desire,"

The disgraced New York Yankees third baseman was suspended for 211 games on Aug. 5 for violations of baseball's drug agreement and labor contract.

Arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced the star slugger's original ban from 211 games to 162 on Jan. 11, but prohibited him from playing in any regular- season or postseason games in 2014.

A desperate Rodriguez sued two days later.

"Alex Rodriguez has done the right thing by withdrawing his lawsuit. His decision to move forward is in everyone's best interest," the MLB Players Association said in a statement.
