Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free agent pitcher Edinson Volquez to a one-year contract on Friday.

Volquez spent the past two seasons with the San Diego Padres before he was designated for assignment and released earlier this week.

The right-hander went 9-10 with a 6.01 earned run average over 27 starts before his release.

Over 153 career appearances -- 149 starts -- with Texas, Cincinnati and the Padres, Volquez has posted a 53-50 mark with a 4.77 ERA.

To make room for Volquez on the active roster, Los Angeles optioned pitcher Chris Withrow to Triple-A Albuquerque.
