A's to sign Kazmir to 2-year deal

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics will reportedly sign left-hander Scott Kazmir to a two-year deal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The deal will become official after he takes a physical.

After throwing just 1 2/3 innings in 2011 and spending the 2012 season in the independant Atlantic League, Kazmir returned to the majors last season and made 29 starts for the Cleveland Indians, going 10-9 with a 4.04 ERA. He also fanned 162 batters in 158 innings.

An American League All-Star for Tampa Bay in 2006 and 2008, Kazmir is 76-70 lifetime with a 4.16 ERA in 209 games, 208 of which have been starts, with the Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Indians.

His best year came in 2007 with the Rays when he went 13-9 with a 3.48 ERA, while leading the league with 239 strikeouts. His 34 starts that year also topped the AL.
