Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of Freddy Garcia from Triple-A Norfolk, with the veteran pitcher slated to start Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Garcia signed a minor league contract with the Orioles on March 27, three days after being released by the San Diego Padres in spring training. The 36-year- old compiled a 4-0 record with a 2.67 earned run average in five starts at Norfolk, and was recently named the International League's Player of the Week.

The right-hander will be taking the rotation spot of Zach Britton, who was optioned to the minors earlier in the week after being tagged for six runs and 10 hits over six innings in a loss at Seattle on Monday.

Garcia, a two-time All-Star with the Mariners from 2001-02, spent the past two seasons pitching for the New York Yankees and posted a 7-6 record with a 5.20 ERA in 30 appearances (17 starts) last year. He owns an overall mark of 152-101 with a 4.15 ERA over 14 major league campaigns.

To make room for Garcia on the active roster, the Orioles designated pitcher Zach Clark for assignment. The 29-year-old pitched in one game for Baltimore this season, surrendering three runs in 1 2/3 innings against Seattle on Wednesday.
