Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez left Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers in the first inning with a strained right oblique.

Chavez fouled off the second pitch he saw from Texas starter Justin Grimm, grabbed his right side and walked off the field in the middle of the at-bat.

Cliff Pennington replaced Chavez and eventually grounded out to end the first.

Chavez entered play with a .325 average, seven homers and 25 RBI in 37 games this season.
