Macon, GA ( - After leading Mercer University's start-up football program Mercer to a 10-win season this year, head football coach Bobby Lamb's contract has been extended through the 2019 season, the university announced Tuesday.

Mercer's 10-2 record set an NCAA Division I record for victories by a first- year program. The Bears finished third in the Pioneer Football League with a 6-2 mark.

Lamb is a finalist for the 27th Eddie Robinson Award, given annually to the FCS national coach of the year.

"Bobby Lamb has done a tremendous job creating a winning culture in his first season at Mercer and we look forward to having him build a football legacy that will last a lifetime," Mercer president William D. Underwood said. "His vision for recruiting true student-athletes to our campus and bringing men of character to Mercer embodies what our university is all about."

This was Mercer's first and only season in the PFL. The Bears will move to the Southern Conference next year. Lamb was a nine-year head coach at Furman University in the SoCon.
