Tulsa, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Dane Evans tossed five touchdown passes to help lift the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 38-28 decision over SMU in an American Athletic Conference matchup at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Evans completed 16-of-24 passes for 286 yards and threw two touchdowns apiece to Keyarris Garrett (4 catches, 96 yards) and Keevan Lucas (4-88), as the Golden Hurricane (2-7, 2-3 AAC) snapped a seven-game slide. Zack Langer carried 33 times for 167 yards in the victory.

The Mustangs (0-8, 0-4) lost their eighth in a row despite a season-high 28 points for the nation's 125th-ranked scoring offense. Matt Davis threw for 212 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for a game-high 181 yards and two scores in a losing effort.

SMU found pay dirt on its first play from scrimmage, as Davis hooked up with Der'rikk Thompson for a 64-yard scoring strike, although the two-point conversion failed. The touchdown was the Mustangs' first during the first quarter of play all season.

Tulsa took a 7-6 lead on Evans' 18-yard touchdown pass to Garrett at the 5:04 mark of the opening frame.

SMU answered with a seven-play scoring drive, capped by K.C. Nlemchi's 13-yard touchdown scamper.

But the Golden Hurricane responded right back on their very next snap, as Evans found Bishop Louie for a 42-yard touchdown pass to make it a 14-13 game.

Evans tossed a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes to Lucas; a 64-yarder at the 10:06 mark and then a one-yard hookup with 2:06 to play in the half, as the Golden Hurricane took a 28-13 lead into the break.

Tulsa added to its lead at the 5:05 mark of the third quarter when Evans found Garrett for another touchdown pass, this time from 32 yards.

SMU finally stopped the bleeding on a three-yard touchdown run by Davis with just over 12 minutes to play in regulation. Davis scored again on a four-yard run with 3:14 remaining to trim the margin to 35-28, but Tulsa's Carl Salazar closed out the scoring with a 24-yard field goal with 1:08 to play.

Tulsa managed to win despite being gashed for 252 yards (5.9 ypc) and three scores on the ground.
