Recap: Tulane vs. Memphis
New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby McCain and Dontrell Nelson both registered defensive touchdowns as the Memphis Tigers coasted to a 38-7 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in an American Athletic Conference matchup at Yulman Stadium.
Paxton Lynch led the Tigers (7-3, 5-1 AAC) offensively with 178 yards on 14- of-25 passing efficiency and two total touchdowns. Mose Frazier reeled in a team-high total of five catches for 59 yards, while Brandon Hayes paced Memphis on the ground with 17 carries for 47 yards.
For Tulane (3-7, 2-4), Tanner Lee hit on 26-of-48 pass attempts for 196 yards and was picked off three times. Lazedrick Thompson and Dontrell Harris contributed 70 and 65 rushing yards, respectively.
The Tigers' dominance began less than two minutes after kickoff, as McCain scored the first points of the contest on a 15-yard interception return.
The only points of the second stanza came courtesy of Jake Elliot, who connected on a 22-yard field goal try to give Memphis a 10-0 lead as the game progressed towards the intermission.
The Tigers extended their lead to 17-0 at the 9:25 mark of the third period as Lynch completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Frazier. Memphis added two more touchdowns before the final quarter, as Nelson returned a pick 58 yards to the end zone and Lynch crossed the goal line on a four-yard rush.
Tulane finally ended the run with just under two minutes left in regulation, as Hilliard rushed 19 yards for six points. The Tigers answered, as Robert Davis punched it in from two yards out to give the visitors a lasting, 38-7 lead.
Despite suffering a 31-point setback, the Green Wave finished with a 351-334 advantage in total yards of offense. Tulane also lost two fumbles and converted only 6-of-18 third-down plays into a new set of downs.Game Notes
