Recap: Ga Southern vs. Idaho

Statesboro, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Ellison threw for 96 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores, as the Georgia Southern Eagles routed Sun Belt Conference opponent the Idaho Vandals, 47-24, at Paulson Stadium.

Ellison completed 7-of-11 pass attempts for the Eagles (5-2, 4-0 SBC). Favian Upshaw also saw time under center, throwing for 105 yards and a touchdown on a 4-of-4 passing performance. Matt Breida had 19 carries for 155 yards and added solid receiving numbers as well (two receptions, 36 yards, TD).

Matt Linehan completed 19-of-31 passes for 230 yards with an interception for the Vandals (0-6, 0-4). Elijhaa Penny had 21 carries for 75 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vandals got on the board first with Austin Rehkow converting a 35-yard field goal five minutes into the game.

Midway through the opening quarter, Ellison ran six yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles the lead, 7-3.

Ellison found BJ Johnson for a 22-yard touchdown pass later in the opening frame. After a missed extra point, it was 13-3.

In the first minute of the second half, Penny rushed 10 yards for an Idaho touchdown, making it 13-10.

A few minutes later, Upshaw connected with Breida for a 17-yard touchdown pass, extending the Eagles' lead to 20-10.

Ellison kept up his strong game early in the second half, running 14 yards for another touchdown. Several minutes later, Alfred Ramsby found the end zone on a 3-yard run, making it 33-10.

Idaho tried for a comeback bid starting late in the third. Penny ran four yards for a touchdown with three minutes left in the quarter. Then, as time expired in the frame, Penny ran for a 1-yard score, cutting the deficit to 33-24.

Early in the fourth quarter, however, the Eagles' Matt Dobson intercepted Linehan and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown, making it 40-24.

In the final minute, Ean Days ran four yards for another Eagles touchdown, capping off the victory.

The Eagles tallied 550 yards to their opponent's 365 in the dominant offensive display.
