Recap: Appalachian St vs. ULM

Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Lamb threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Appalachian State Mountaineers past the ULM Warhawks, 31-29, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Lamb completed 25-of-35 pass attempts and was intercepted once for the Mountaineers (4-5, 3-2 Sun Belt), who have won three straight. Marcus Cox carried the ball a game-high 21 times for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Pete Thomas threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-41 passing for the Warhawks (3-6, 2-3), who have dropped five games in a row. Kenzee Jackson caught three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.

The Warhawks got on the board first five minutes into the contest when Justin Manton converted a 31-yard field goal.

With 4:21 left in the opening quarter, Simms McElfresh ran four yards for a score to put the home team up 7-3.

Shortly before the end of the first quarter, Manton converted another field goal, this one from 38 yards out, to make it 7-6.

Early in the second quarter, ULM took the lead on Thomas's 12-yard touchdown pass to Jackson. Three and a half minutes later, Thomas kept the ball and ran it in from a yard out, making it 20-7.

The Mountaineers, however, answered back a few minutes later when Lamb found Tacoi Sumler for an eight-yard touchdown pass. With six seconds left in the half, he found Barrett Burns on a one-yard touchdown pass, leading his team into the break with a 21-20 lead.

Manton converted a 35-yard field goal midway through the third quarter, pulling the Warhawks back ahead, 23-21.

With 6:10 left to play in the game, the Mountaineers pulled ahead on Cox's seven-yard touchdown run, which made it 28-23.

With 1:42 left, Thomas found Ajalen Holley on a three-yard touchdown pass. The ensuing two-point conversion try fell incomplete, but the Warhawks clung to a 29-28 lead.

With 29 seconds left, however, Bentlee Critcher hit the game-winning field goal for Appalachian State from 39 yards out.

The Mountaineers' defense came away with six sacks for a loss of 33 total yards, and held ULM's offense to a 5-of-15 third-down conversion ratio.
