Recap: New Mexico St vs. Louisiana
Las Cruces, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Elijah McGuire rushed for 136 yards and scored two total touchdowns as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns defeated the New Mexico State Aggies, 44-16, in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
Terrance Broadway threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns on 12-of-23 passing for Louisiana (6-3, 5-0 Sun Belt), which has won five straight. James Butler caught five passes and turned them into 95 yards.
Tyler Rogers managed to produce 204 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-34 passing, but he was also intercepted three times for New Mexico State (2-8, 1-4), which has lost eight straight. Teldrick Morgan finished with 117 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.
On their first drive of the game the Aggies covered 70 yards on 17 plays, but they had to settle for a 22-yard field goal from Maxwell Johnson.
Louisiana answered with a lengthy possession of its own, as Broadway threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Jared Johnson to cap off a 15-play drive that lasted just over seven minutes.
The Ragin' Cajuns pushed ahead even further on a seven-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter from McGuire.
Effrem Reed scored on a two-yard touchdown run in the last minute of the second quarter and Broadway threw a four-yard touchdown pass to McGuire early in the third.
A 42-yard touchdown pass from Rogers to Morgan allowed the Aggies to put an end to their scoring drought. However, the extra point attempt was blocked. After the block, Corey Trim picked up the ball and returned it 98 yards to give Louisiana an additional two points.
Louisiana kept pouring it on in the fourth quarter with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Broadway to Johnson and a three-yard touchdown run from Darius Hoggins.
New Mexico State closed out the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run from Xavier Hall.
