Recap: Louisiana vs. South Alabama

Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Elijah McGuire rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, and Hunter Stover booted all four of his field goal attempts through as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns outlasted the South Alabama Jaguars, 19-9, in a Sun Belt Conference meeting at Cajun Field.

Terrance Broadway completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 216 yards, and also ran for 54 yards on 11 carries for Louisiana (5-3, 4-0 SBC), which has won four games in a row.

Brandon Bridge completed 16-of-27 passing for 177 yards and a touchdown for South Alabama (5-3, 4-2). Shavarez Smith hauled in eight receptions for 116 yards, and Xavier Johnson carried the ball 10 times for a team-best 43 yards in the loss, which snapped a four-game win streak.

Stover gave Louisiana an early 3-0 advantage when he booted a 23-yard field goal with 9:19 left to play in the first period.

Just three seconds into the second quarter, South Alabama kicker Aleem Sunanon knotted the score at 3-3 when he booted a 20-yard field goal for the Jaguars.

Bridge gave the Jaguars a 9-3 lead when he hit Jereme Jones on a 12-yard touchdown with 8:15 left to play in the second quarter. Sunanon missed the ensuing extra point try.

Stover hit his second field goal of the contest, this time from 26 yards out, to cut South Alabama's lead to 9-6 with 4:30 to play in the second period.

Stover hit two more field goals - from 22 and 32 yards out, respectively - to give his Ragin' Cajuns the 12-9 advantage with 11:28 to play in the game. His 22-yarder came with 3:31 left in the third quarter.

McGuire scored on an eight-yard touchdown run with 5:01 left to play in the contest for Louisiana, giving the Cajuns a 10-point advantage, 19-9. That is how the scoring ended in the game.

Louisiana owned the advantage in rushing yards, 196-66, in the contest, and had a 22-18 edge in first downs. South Alabama managed just a 4-of-15 third- down conversion ratio in the defeat.
