Recap: Arkansas State vs. New Mexico St

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Fredi Knighten racked up 449 total yards and four touchdowns, as the Arkansas State Red Wolves dismissed the New Mexico State Aggies, 68-35, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Knighten completed 15-of-21 passes for 296 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 153 yards and two scores for ASU (7-5, 5-3 Sun Belt), which ended the regular season on a high note by snapping a two-game losing streak. Michael Gordon also had a huge game with 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns to go with a 45-yard receiving score. Tres Houston was Knighten's favorite target with four catches for 102 yards.

For NMSU (2-10, 1-7), losers of 10 in a row, Tyler Rogers threw for 314 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions on 28-of-43 passing. Gregory Hogan tallied nine receptions for 162 yards and three scores, all career highs, while Larry Rose III rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

ASU scored on the game's first drive, with a 45-yard touchdown strike from Knighten to Gordon capping off a six-play, 75-yard possession.

NMSU tied the score late in the first quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Rogers to Hogan.

Gordon added a 35-yard rushing score for ASU early in the second quarter, but the score remained 13-7 following a failed PAT. NMSU responded less than three minutes later, taking its first lead of the game on an 80-yard touchdown run by Rose.

Knighten ran in a 14-yard score on the Red Wolves' next drive, but the see saw continued when Rogers and Hogan hooked up again moments later on a 75-yard touchdown, capping off a run of three touchdowns in less than a minute of game time. The Aggies led with 10:14 to play in the second, 21-20.

Gordon's big day continued four minutes later when he put the home team back on top with a 19-yard touchdown run. ASU went into intermission with a 27-21 lead.

The Red Wolves padded their lead with two touchdowns less than four minutes apart in the third quarter. Gordon rushed in an 8-yard score at the 9:41 mark, then Knighten ran for a 2-yard touchdown to make it 41-21.

NMSU chipped into its deficit later in the third quarter on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Rogers to Adam Shapiro, but ASU answered not two minutes later when Knighten threw a 22-yard score to Kenneth Rains.

ASU added two rushing touchdown early in the fourth - a 7-yarder by Brandon Byner and a 32-yarder by Tyler Trosin. NMSU added another score on a 35-yard touchdown hookup from Rogers to Hogan, and the Red Wolves put an end to the scoring when Andrew Tryon returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown inside the final two minutes.

The Red Wolves totaled 764 yards and picked up 34 first downs.
