Recap: Eastern Mich vs. Central Mich

Ypsilanti, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Devon Spalding rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, as the Central Michigan Chippewas blew out the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 38-7, in a Mid-American Conference tilt at Rynearson Stadium.

Saylor Lavallii also had a big day rushing for the bowl-eligible Chippewas (6-4, 4-2 MAC) with 24 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper Rush completed 18-of-23 passes for 223 yards, a touchdown and an interception, with Deon Butler (five receptions, 95 yards) acting as his top target.

EMU (2-7, 1-4) totaled a meager 97 yards on the afternoon. Rob Bolden completed less than half his passes (7-of-19) for 76 yards with a touchdown and a pick.

CMU's dominance started early with two first-quarter touchdown runs by Lavallii, the first from 41 yards out and the other a 1-yarder.

The Chippewas' ground game continued to punish EMU early in the second quarter, as Spalding ripped off a 42-yard touchdown rush.

Rush got into the action later in the frame when he connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Titus Davis.

Brian Eavey knocked through a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give CMU a 31-0 lead.

After a quiet third quarter, the Chippewas' padded their advantage early in the fourth on a 6-yard run by Spalding.

The Eagles put an end to the shutout with 3:16 to play when Bolden tossed a 4- yard touchdown to Darius Jackson.

CMU gained 27 first downs to EMU's five. The Chippewas also had a commanding advantage in the time-of-possession battle, holding the ball for more than 40 minutes.
