Recap: Northern Ill vs. Central Mich

DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Rawls ran for a career-high 270 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Central Michigan Chippewas knock off the Northern Illinois Huskies, 34-17, in a Mid-American Conference matchup at Huskie Stadium.

Cooper Rush threw for 269 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 20- of-31 passing for the Chippewas (4-3, 2-1 MAC). Jesse Kroll was his preferred receiving target with six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Drew Hare completed 18-of-33 pass attempts for 231 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies (4-2, 1-1) and was also intercepted once. Juwan Brescacin caught six passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

The Huskies opened the scoring on the game's first drive, as Hare found Brescacin on a 20-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes in.

Five minutes later, Rawls tied the game up for the Chippewas after a 5-yard touchdown run. The running back continued his fine performance several minutes later with a 13-yard rushing score that put his team up, 14-7.

Midway through the second quarter, Central Michigan extended its lead when Kroll caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Cooper, making it 21-7.

Early in the third quarter, Brian Eavey kicked a 25-yard field goal to give the Chippewas a bigger lead, 24-7.

Tyler Wedel converted a field goal for the Huskies midway through the third quarter from 24 yards.

A few minutes later, Ben McCord caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Rush to make it 31-10.

Brescacin caught a 14-yard touchdown pass before the end of the third quarter to make it 31-17.

Eavey notched another field goal early in the final quarter from 23 yards out, which was the final scoring play of the contest.

The Chippewas put together an impressive 552 yards and held more than 39 minutes of possession time in the sure-handed victory.
