Recap: Toledo vs. Central Mich
Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Logan Woodside threw for a career-high 339 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Toledo Rockets to a 42-28 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference clash at the Glass Bowl.
Woodside completed 23-of-34 passes with an interception and also rushed for 20 yards and a score for Toledo (3-2, 2-0 MAC), which has won back-to-back games. Alonzo Russell (seven receptions, 120 yards, two TDs) and Corey Jones (eight receptions, 106 yards) both benefited from Woodside's performance. Terry Swanson rushed for 97 yards and a score on just 11 carries.
For CMU (2-3, 0-1), losers of three straight, Cooper Rush threw for 291 yards, two touchdowns and a pick on 24-of-31 passing. Thomas Rawls rushed for 65 yards and two scores, Titus Davis reeled in six passes for 128 yards and Jesse Kroll (seven receptions, 83 yards) was on the receiving end of both Rush scoring strikes.
Toledo opened up the game on a 15-play drive but had to settle for a 32-yard field goal by Jeremiah Detmer.
CMU took a 7-3 lead four minutes later on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Rush to Kroll.
Detmer added another field goal (21 yards) at the end of the first quarter.
The Rockets took control in the second quarter with 14 unanswered points. With under five minutes to play before halftime, Swanson rushed in a 3-yard score, then with just 27 seconds remaining Woodside hooked up with Russell for a 6- yard touchdown, as the hosts went into intermission with a 20-7 lead.
The Chippewas opened the second half on a 10-play, 75-yard drive, which Rush capped off with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Kroll.
The Woodside-to-Russell connection struck again later in the third quarter from 12 yards away to put Toledo back up by 13, 27-14.
The Rockets scored again just two minutes later when Damion Jones-Moore rushed in a 3-yard score.
CMU refused to go quietly, however. Two Rawls' touchdown runs, a 3-yarder at the tail end of the third quarter and a 6-yarder with under eight minutes to play in the game, brought the Chippewas to within six, 34-28.
Toledo ended the CMU scare with three minutes to play when a Woodside 12-yard touchdown run and a successful two-point conversion to put an end to the scoring.
The Rockets outgained the Chippewas, 543-386, and scored on all seven of their red-zone drives.Game Notes
