Recap: Ohio U vs. Northern Ill
Athens, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Hare passed for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead his Northern Illinois Huskies over the Ohio Bobcats, 21-14, in a Mid-American Conference clash at Peden Stadium Tuesday night.
Hare completed 15-of-23 throws and added a team-high 67 rushing yards on 12 carries for Northern Illinois (9-2, 6-1 MAC). Cameron Stingily carried the ball 15 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the win, which was the fifth in a row for the Huskies.
Derrius Vick completed 19-of-28 passing for 141 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Ohio (5-6, 3-4), while A.J. Ouellette ran 25 times for a game-high 127 yards with a touchdown, and also hauled in a receiving score. The loss for the Bobcats was the second in three games.
Stingily got the scoring started with a two-yard rushing touchdown just four seconds into the second quarter to give Northern Illinois the 7-0 advantage.
Ohio answered with a rushing touchdown of its own. Ouellette dashed 12 yards to the end zone with 10:13 remaining in the half to knot the score at 7-7.
Northern Illinois was the first to get on the board in the second half, when Hare found Akeem Daniels for a 32-yard scoring completion with 9:25 remaining in the third period. The Huskies went ahead again, this time at 14-7.
Neither team scored again until Ohio struck with 8:50 left to play in the game. Vick found Ouellette on a nine-yard touchdown strike to close the gap and tie the game at 14-14.
Northern Illinois took the lead back for good with exactly six minutes to play in the contest when Hare found Chad Beebe for an 18-yard touchdown, giving the Huskies the 21-14 edge.
Ohio had the advantage over Northern Illinois in rushing yards, 203-141, but the Bobcats also missed two field goals in the contest and committed two turnovers to NIU's one.Game Notes
