Recap: Miami-Ohio vs. Ohio U
Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrius Vick tallied 182 total yards and threw a pair of touchdowns, as the Ohio University Bobcats scored 24 straight points and claimed a last-second victory over the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 24-21, in Mid-American Conference action at Yager Stadium.
Vick relieved an ineffective JD Sprague (4-of-8, 53 yards, two interceptions) and completed 10-of-18 passes for 121 yards with the two touchdowns and a pick while rushing for 61 yards for Ohio (6-6, 4-4 MAC), which gained bowl eligibility in the regular-season finale. A.J. Ouellette rushed for 96 yards and caught five passes for 31 yards and a score.
For Miami (2-10, 2-6), Andrew Hendrix completed just 15-of-38 passes for 218 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding stellar rushing numbers (70 yards, TD). Jared Murphy tallied four receptions for 91 yards.
The only score of the first quarter came midway through the frame when Hendrix put the RedHawks on top with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Miami extended its lead early in the second quarter on a 27-yard pick-six by Quinten Rollins. Six minutes later the home team's lead swelled to 21-0 following a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hendrix to Dawan Scott.
Ohio finally lit up the scoreboard on the ensuing kickoff, as Kylan Nelson returned it 84 yards for a touchdown.
The Bobcats cut into their deficit midway through the third quarter on a 13- yard scoring strike from Vick to Ouellette.
Ohio scored its third unanswered touchdown early in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 21 when Vick tossed a 5-yard score to Jordan Reid.
Miami punted the ball back to Ohio deep in its own territory with just 1:08 left to play, but the Bobcats drove 69 yards in just five plays to set up a game-winning 28-yard field goal by Josiah Yazdani, who successfully avenged a miss from 42 yards earlier in the quarter.
The RedHawks committed a game-high seven penalties and only held 26:45 of possession time.Game Notes
