Recap: Northern Ill vs. Kent State

DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Huff and Da'Ron Brown each ran for touchdowns on their only carries which helped the Northern Illinois Huskies top the Kent State Golden Flashes, 17-14, in a Mid-American Conference clash at Huskie Stadium.

Anthony Maddie completed 7-of-10 pass attempts for 105 yards and an interception, while Drew Hare completed 8-of-15 attempts for 93 yards for the Huskies (4-1, 1-0 MAC), who returned to the win column following a defeat in their previous game. Juwan Brescacin caught three passes for 116 yards.

Colin Reardon completed 20-of-36 pass attempts for 244 yards for the Golden Flashes (0-5, 0-2), who are still in search of their first win. Reardon himself rushed for his team's only touchdown.

Midway through the second quarter, Brown broke through for the Huskies with a seven-yard touchdown run for the first score of the game.

The Golden Flashes answered with a field goal just before the end of the first half, as Anthony Melchiori converted from 19 yards.

Early in the third quarter, Tyler Wedel converted on a 40-yard field goal to make it 10-3 in favor of the Huskies.

A few minutes later, Huff extended the lead on an 18-yard touchdown run.

Melchiori cut into the deficit with a 27-yard field goal before the end of the third quarter, making it 17-6.

Midway through the final quarter, Reardon found the end zone on a two-yard run. The ensuing two-point conversion was successful, with Reardon finding Casey Pierce, making the score 17-14.

With a chance to tie the game, with just over two minutes left, Melchiori couldn't make good on a 56-yard field goal attempt.

Kent State was successful on just three of 16 possible third-down conversions, a telling statistic in the team's offensive struggles. The Golden Flashes did have the edge in first downs in the contest, 22-15.
