Recap: Bowling Green vs. Kent State

Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Givens rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Bowling Green clinched a second straight trip to the MAC title game with a narrow 30-20 victory over Kent State.

James Knapke tossed for 315 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the defending conference-champion Falcons (7-3, 5-1 MAC), who locked up the East Division by forcing five turnovers.

Kent State (1-9, 0-6), the only MAC team winless in conference play, gave Bowling Green a much more competitive test than anticipated.

Colin Reardon threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Chris Humphrey, but was also picked off four times.

Humphrey had eight receptions for 132 yards, while Casey Pierce totaled 12 for 127 while bringing in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Reardon with 9:40 remaining in regulation.

Anthony Melchiori missed the extra point, however, to keep it 23-20 game, and a pair of long completions from Knapke set up Givens' 2-yard plunge.

Interceptions on Kent State's two final possessions sealed the outcome.

Givens muscled his way into the end zone from six yards out midway through the opening quarter, and Roger Lewis sped past the secondary on the next BGSU possession and hauled in Knapke's bomb en route to an 82-yard score.

Tyler Tate connected from 37 and 22 yards out to make it 20-0 less than four minutes into the second quarter.

The Flashes amassed a measly 46 yards over their first five drives before embarking on an 11-play, 92-yard trek that ended with Humphrey taking a screen pass and going in for a 21-yard touchdown just before the break.

Humphrey scored again with 6:09 remaining in the third quarter on a fade in the corner of the end zone, and Kent State was again in enemy territory before a Reardon was intercepted by Gabe Martin

Tate again made it a two-possession game, 23-14, with a 21-yard field goal 3:01 into the fourth.
