Recap: Akron vs. Bowling Green
Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - James Knapke threw a touchdown pass and Bowling Green's defense rose to the occasion in a 27-10 win over Akron on Tuesday.
Knapke went 17-for-34 passing for 170 yards and Fred Coppet rushed for a game- high 113 yards in the win.
Andre Givens finished with 101 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (6-3, 4-1 MAC), who have won four of their last five.
Kyle Pohl threw for 304 yards on a career-high 62 pass attempts with three interceptions for the Zips (4-5, 2-3).
Wet weather had a lot to do with a low scoring first half that saw Bowling Green take a 6-3 lead at halftime. The Falcons then added to their lead early in the third because of the sloppy conditions.
Akron had the ball at its 9 and a high snap caused Pohl to mishandle the handoff with his running back. The ball rolled into the end zone and defensive lineman Taylor Royster recovered it to make it a 13-3 lead.
Knapke then capped an 11-play, 62-yard drive later in the third with a 10-yard TD pass to Roger Lewis that gave the visitors a 20-3 edge.
The Zips cut the deficit to 10 with just over nine minutes left in the fourth on a 15-yard touchdown run by Jawon Chisholm.
Givens' 46-yard TD scamper late in the fourth accounted for the final margin.Game Notes
