Licata went 16-for-21 for 193 yards with an interception, while Anthone Taylor had 32 carries for 178 yards and a score for the Bulls (4-6, 2-4 MAC), who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Kyle Pohl went 15-for-29 for 128 yards, and Jawson Chisholm and Cody Grice had a rushing touchdown each for the Zips (4-6, 2-4), who have lost their past four games.
The first score went to Akron, as DeAndre Scott picked off a Licata pass and took it into the end zone for a 37-yard TD return less than 30 seconds in.
Facing a 4th-and-3 later in the first, Buffalo gambled and Jordan Johnson took the snap and started to run, but he softly tossed the ball over the line for Matt Weiser, who took the ball in for a 33-yard score.
The Bulls made it a 14-7 game late in the first as Licata found Devin Campbell for a 6-yard score.
Tony Daniel ran in a score from 21 yards out to give the Bulls a 21-7 lead, and the Zips answered with a 33-yard field goal from Robert Stein.
Licata and Jacob Martinez connected for a 17-yard score late in the half, with the extra point failing to make it a 27-10 game at the break.
The Zips started the second half with the ball and Grice punched it in from a yard out to make it a 27-17 game 5 1/2 minutes in.
The Bulls, though, got two quick scores as Ron Willoughby caught a 42-yard touchdown and Pohl fumbled the ball on the first snap of Akron's ensuing touch, leading to a 24-yard touchdown catch by Campbell for a 41-17 lead.
Taylor scored his touchdown from six yards out early in the fourth quarter and Johnson ran one in from 16 yards late in the game. Chisholm scored from a yard out between those two scores to account for the final tally.Game Notes
