Recap: Arkansas State vs. Utah State

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - A 24-yard TD catch by Dijon Paschal in overtime completed a huge comeback for Arkansas State as the Red Wolves survived a 21-14 decision against the Utah State Aggies in non-conference action at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Fredi Knighten, who completed the game-winner to Paschal for the Red Wolves (2-2), converted 19-of-33 for 190 yards, surviving an interception and four sacks. Johnston White gave ASU a presence on the ground as he ran the ball 18 times for 100 yards and a score as well.

The Aggies (2-2), who were playing without quarterback Chuckie Keeton due to a knee injury, turned to Darell Garretson who completed 27-of-46 for 268 yards and two TDs, was picked off once and sacked three times as the team had a two- game win streak come to an end. Hunter Sharp responded with nine catches for 130 yards, both game highs, leading to a score.

Utah State scored the only points of the first half as Sharp reeled in a pass from Garretson and turned it into an 81-yard TD pass play midway through the opening quarter.

In the third frame J.D. McKissic's 12-yard TD run for Arkansas State knotted the score, after the hosts were provided with a short field.

Garretson countered three minutes later with a 41-yard scoring strike to Ronald Butler to regain the lead, capping an eight-play, 75-yard drive.

After punting twice and missing on a 44-yard field goal attempt, the Red Wolves locked the score at 14-14 as White reached the end zone on a four-yard run with 4:58 to play in regulation.

USU's Nick Diaz had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but his 38-yard field goal was blocked, leaving the door open for ASU to complete the comeback bid.

The Aggies had an opportunity to tie the game in overtime, but the team moved the ball a total of just eight yards before Garretson missed Butler on fourth down.

Utah State, which converted only 6-of-20 on third down, didn't do itself any favors with 11 penalties for a loss of 100 yards on the night.
